Storius collaborates with the Yim Tin Tsai Story Telling Project to create two new self-guided tours in the App, “The Influence of Religious Beliefs: Missionaries and Yim Tin Tsai Villagers” and “Seeking the Source of Happiness: A Journey Back Home with Yim Tin Tsai Villagers”!
This collaboration is part of the project “Community-based Narratives and Public Experiential Engagement for Cultural and Historical Heritage Conservation and Revitalisation of Yim Tin Tsai, Sai Kung” organised by The Chinese University of Hong Kong and funded by the Countryside Conservation Office and Countryside Conservation Funding Scheme. The aim is to generate valuable records and information about the culture and history of Yim Tin Tsai, while preserving the cultural heritage and promoting countryside preservation of Hong Kong.
Yim Tin Tsz is a small island located in Sai Kung, Hong Kong, boasting a rich history spanning nearly 300 years. It is also home to a large Catholic community starting with the arrival of missionaries to spread the Word of God in 1841. The entire village embraced Catholicism by 1875. In 1879, Father Saint Joseph arrived at Yim Tin Tsz Village, in an act of generosity the villagers donated land for his residence and to build the church. The St. Joseph’s Chapel was designated as a Grade II historic building in Hong Kong in 2011. The island is marked by a strong sense of religious devotion and showcases the enduring traditions of the Hakka culture.
